Behind every thriving neighborhood in Philly there is an iconic, unique personality. While Old City is often highlighted for either their historic locations and nightclubs, the local bars and restaurants cannot be emphasized enough for their innovative food and welcoming vibes. Nick’s Old City Bar and Grille (formerly Nick’s Roast Beef) embodies the eclectic, relaxed feel of every neighborhood’s favorite corner bar.
Not to be outdone, Nick’s has been widely recognized for their savory menu. Voted Best Burger in Philadelphia by Zagat, their juicy, luxurious ground-bacon burgers are made from one-third custom blended ground bacon from the Italian Market and hand-pattied to perfection. In Between Rivers tried the Classic Ground Bacon Burger and after one bite, let’s just say we collectively decided to have a worthwhile “cheat day.”
Nick’s is also heavily lauded for their pulled pork barbeque. Southern Living Magazine recently named them one of America’s Best BBQ Spots and the Philadelphia Daily News awarded them #1 Best BBQ in Philly! IBR tried the “2 Pig” Pulled Pork Sandwich featuring rubbed, smoked, and pulled pork fresh from the smoker topped with jalapeno coleslaw on a buttery brioche bun. Nick’s pulled pork sandwiches come in “1 Pig,” “2 Pig,” and “3 Pig” varieties, with bacon and split pork sausage add-ons depending on how much pig you dare to handle!
Don’t forget about their famous wings! Each wing is flavored with a special house blend rub, smoked until the meat is basically falling off the bone, and then flash fried for that perfect outer char.
Nick’s Old City offers excellent Happy Hour drink specials weekdays from 4-7pm with a $5 appetizer menu. Be sure to pop by Nick’s for Old City Eats on Thursdays when they offer half-priced Applewood Bacon Wrapped Shrimp and house-smoked Pulled Pork Nachos! Also on special are the $5 Orange Bourbon Sour made with Jim Beam, Peach Schnapps, lemon juice, and Red Bull Orange.
